Viva Florida 500 Activities
Stop by Youth Services and pick up "Exploring Florida" activity books for the family. These books are complimentary from the Museum of Florida History and the Niceville Library to commemorate Florida's 500 years! And while you are here, participate in coloring the large Florida history mural posted in YS; all available May 4th!

Maritime History Lecture: Emanuel Point Ships - Florida's Earliest Shipwreck
Friends of the Niceville Public Library are pleased to host this Maritime History Lecture with Della Scott-Ireton, Director of Florida Public Archaeology Network. She will share information about Florida's earliest shipwreck site which was discovered in 1992 by a team from the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research during a survey of Pensacola Bay. This free program will take place in the Niceville Community Center on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. This program is in celebration of Viva Florida's 500th Anniversary and hosted by the Friends of the Niceville Library in partnership with Florida Public Archaeology Network, UWF. American Girls History Mystery Book Club
This book club is for girls in 2nd-6th grade and meets the third Wednesday of each month from 4:15-5:30 in the YS program room. Registration is required as space is limited. Girls must sign up in YS for each monthly meeting, check out the book or purchase a copy, and finish the book before the meeting date.

Summer Book Discussion with Author
Beat the heat this summer and join the Friends of the Niceville Library as they host the Summer Book Discussion for adults. Our library won advanced copies of author, Barbara Delinsky upcoming novel "Sweet Salt Air" which releases on June 18. The author also agreed to attend the summer book discussion via a live telephone chat session on Wednesday, May 29 @ 10:30 am. Filled with real, gut-wrenching emotion as well as a strong romantic storyline, Sweet Salt Air is a new offering from a beloved storyteller guaranteed to make you laugh and cry. National Screen-Free Week April 29 - May 5
Youth Services has some fun activity sheets and great books to read as an alternative to screen time for the entire family. Listening to a book on cd or reading aloud is a great way to spend time together. Look at some of our many book displays for the right fit for your family. There are some choice books for check-out that we have put together a "kit" for take home fun (one per family please). And of course, we welcome you to our regularly scheduled programming as well.

Read to Baci
Baci, a Bichon Frise therapy dog, loves a good book! If you are age 7 or older and would like to read a story to Baci, join him in YS Thursday, May 2nd at 3:30 p.m.This is a first come, first served program and reading time is limited. You may bring a book or choose from the library collection. Or Baci will sit with you while his owner, Ms. Cahill, reads a special selection.

Raising Readers Story Time Ages 3 - 5
Inspire your future reader at our preschool story time. Join us for exciting stories selected just for children ages 3-5 years old. Programs will be held in Youth Services program room on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Art Display for May
HBB Photography will be on display at the Niceville Public Library throughout the month of May. HBB Photography is the artistic husband and wife team of Hannah and Shawn Brown. Together, they have worked as artists and photographers for over nine years. HBB Photography specializes in combining classic, photojournalistic, and creative photography into one fantastic photographic package. In addition two Local Color Group artists will be on exhibit in our table top display: Rex Taunton will display and have for sale examples of his wire wrapped jewelry featuring both natural and manmade cabochon and faceted stones set in sterling silver. Look for the special color change piece! Lynette Miesen has combined her work as a plein air painter with her poetry in her first book: The Poetry of Art. Copies will be available for purchase, as well as, samples of the kinds of colorful paintings she creates on location at places throughout the region. Take a break and enjoy the art and the feelings expressed through her poetry!

Baby Bookworm
This lapsit program consists of music, stories and rhymes especially chosen to build the bond between you and your child. The program is suited for children from birth to age 3. Please meet in YS program room on 2nd & 4th Fridays each month.
Prewalkers-9:30, Walkers up to age 3-10:30. This month's program is May 24th only.

After School Program
"Catch the Magic School Bus" for children ages 6-12 will be held the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the YS program room from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Every month the program will focus on a different MSB book and include fun facts, hands-on activities, cool science and of course a Ms. Frizzle mystery or two. Space is limited so registration is required. We will be meeting May 14th with Ms. Frizzle and the class as the "Magic School Bus Cracks a Yolk." Please register in YS or call 279-4863 x1514.

Viva 500 Story Time in the Children's Park
It's spring time! Its story time in the Children's Park! Library staff partners with the park staff Friday, April 5th at 4:00 p.m. to bring you a good book followed by a fun kid craft. Suggested age 3+.

Family Movie Matinee
From "National Geographic Explorer" director, Nick Stringer, comes a spectacular movie adventure of one loggerhead turtles journey from a young hatchling emerging from her nest, to a 25 year old adult returning to the same beach to hatch her own young. It's an amazing odyssey you won't want to miss. This movie is rated G for the whole family to enjoy. Join us April 6th at 10:30 a.m. in the YS program room.

Scrabble Anyone? @ Niceville Library
Do you enjoy playing Scrabble? If so, here's a great opportunity to have fun, meet new people and play some Scrabble, as the small conference room at the Niceville Public Library will be set up with Scrabble boards for the adult community to play and enjoy on Wednesday, May 8 and 22 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please keep in mind that you don't have to be an expert to participate and all skill levels are welcome.
